2006 Keenan Merlot, Reserve, Mailbox Vineyard, Spring Mountain District, 30th Anniversary
For the fourth consecutive year the recently rechristened “Mailbox” vineyard has been chosen as the prime source for the Reserve Merlot bottling. 5% Cabernet Franc has been added to this blend to heighten the bright, rich, cherry elements in this blend. Hints of violets and a fabulous spiciness show in the nose, a chocolaty creaminess combines with the rich fruit on the palette, and the finish is long, deep, and elegant. Drink now or decades from now.

“The brilliant 2006 Merlot Reserve Mailbox Vineyard (a tiny 350-case lot that includes 5% Cabernet Franc) possesses a dense purple color as well as sweet notes of charcoal, black currants, black cherries, chocolate, and earth. Dense, full bodied, and beautifully constructed with silky tannins and enough acidity to provide uplift and vibrancy, it can be enjoyed over the next 15 year."

“This vineyard-designate is always the winery's biggest Merlot. In this vintage of 2006, it shows impressively ripe flavors of blackberries and chocolate, with pleasant herbal nuances, wrapped into firm mountain tannins. The wine is dry, but oak adds frankly sweet notes of caramel."
